Mount St. Helen
is Heating Up for an Eruption Again
Washington (HDW) November 10, 2004
– The U.S. Geological Survey
(USGS) reported yesterday that growth of a new lava dome inside
the crater of Mount St. Helens continued, and is being accompanied
by intermittent emissions of steam and ash. As long as this eruption
is in progress, episodic changes in the level of activity can occur
over days, weeks, or even months. Increase in the intensity of eruption
could occur suddenly or with very little warning and may include
explosive events that produce hazardous conditions within several
miles of the volcano. The picture above, obtained by the USGS, shows
the smoke rising from the red molten lava within this powerful volcano.

Mount
St. Helen is in Danger of Erupting Near Seattle Again
Seattle, Washington (HDW) September
30, 2004 - Earthquake activity beneath
Mount St. Helens volcano has increased during the past few days.
Scientists of the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Cascades
Volcano Observatory (CVO) and the University of Washington described
the elevated earthquake activity and indicated that although the
outcome of this activity is uncertain, several explosive scenarios
are possible. The most recent eruption of the volcano's lava dome
occurred in October 1986, and a series of explosions occurred in
1989-91. (full article...)
